About Me

Hi, this is Jennifer. I write the blog 'Le Picnic'.

We are moving to the Caribbean, to a tiny island called Antigua, independent from England since only 1981. Antigua is only slightly larger than the Isle of Wight and has a population of about 80,000 people.
We are moving there from Verbier in Switzerland, a ski resort perched on an Alp, at an altitude of about 1500m. The population of the village for most of the year is about 2,500, swelling to over 30,000 during the ski season. Some of the mountains are covered with snow all year round. It is hard to find any length of flat surface on which to walk, we are always going up or down.

'We' are my husband Cory, our kids Thomas (6) and Maya (4) and our dachshund Ricky. We live in a small rented apartment and in our free time we snowboard, ski, mountain bike, go rock climbing, or any other mountain sports you care to think of. The boys are very adventurous, while Maya and I are very girlie and love sun dresses and beaches.

Home to me is Ireland. Home to Cory is New Zealand. I guess our children are international and are lucky enough to speak both French and English because of where we have been living.
Ricky the dachshund is most definitely French, and he thinks he is a cat most of the time - except when he sees a cat and has an inbred desire to hunt it down.

So we are moving to the Caribbean as we have been offered a job there, and we are closing our business in Switzerland and moving to a flatter country that has a coastline all around, in fact whose tagline is '365 beaches - one for each day of the year'. I think the ski resort of Verbier has over 400km of ski piste or in the Summer 400 km of walking trails. The total surface area of Antigua is 280 km2. In Verbier it snows a lot. In Antigua it never snows.

This will be a Huge Change for us.

Enough of a geography lesson, why Le Picnic?
Because that is my passion and this is my place to record my discoveries, adventures and memories in the scope of picnics, eating out of doors and everything that that entails.
And for my family and friends that want to know where I am and what I am doing, this is for you. I have travelled a lot and have made and left friends on several continents. I miss you all. But thanks to the internet we are always close.

Bisous x
